Active Components
Those Components which Required external source to their operation is called Active
Components.
(A)Diode
A Diode is a specialized electronic component
with two electrodes called the anode and the cathode. Most diodes are made with
semiconductor materials such as silicon and germanium,
- Zener diode : Passes current in reverse direction to provide a constant voltage reference
- Photodiode : Passes current in proportion to incident light
- Solar Cell, photovoltaic cell , Light-emitting diode : A diode that emits light
- DIAC (Diode for Alternating Current)
(B)Transistors
A Transistor is a Semiconductor device used
to amplify and switch electronic signals and electrical power.
- Bipolar junction transistor : NPN or PNP
- Photo transistor Amplified photodetector
- Field-effect transistor (FET)
(C)Thyristors
A Thyristor is a solid-state semiconductor
device with four layers of alternating N and P-type material. It acts exclusively as a bistable switch, conducting when the gate receives a current
trigger, and continuing to conduct while the voltage across the device is not
reversed (forward-biased).
- Silicon-controlled rectifier (SCR)
- TRIAC
- Unijunction transistor (UJT)
- Programmable Unijunction transistor (PUT)
(D)Integrated
circuits
An Integrated circuit is a set of electronic circuits on one chip of semiconductor
material, normally silicon.
This can be made much smaller than a discrete
circuit made from independent electronic
components
